
Google’s SynthID system successfully identified an AI-generated hoax image, demonstrating its effectiveness in detecting deepfakes. The image, which falsely claimed Kentucky Senator Mitch McConnell was hospitalized, contained a SynthID watermark that was revealed by Snopes, showing the system’s ability to detect AI-generated content. The watermark, embedded in the image, worked even when copied or screencaptured, highlighting its practical application in verifying image authenticity.
