Microsoft logs $3.2B from Anthropic investment, but OpenAI was a mixed bag

Microsoft reported a $3.2 billion gain from its investment in Anthropic, which boosted diluted earnings per share by 33 cents, while its OpenAI investment declined by $600 million, reducing diluted EPS by about 7 cents. The Anthropic investment, part of a $30 billion Azure services agreement, was not updated quarterly, but the OpenAI investment did receive quarterly disclosures. Despite the write-down, the $600 million was considered a rounding error for Microsoft, which delivered a highly profitable quarter with $90 billion in revenue and $35.8 billion in net income.
