EON wants to move the data superhighway from ocean fiber to space lasers
Endeavor Optical Networks aims to develop a fleet of laser-equipped satellites to provide high-speed optical downlink throughput, targeting hyperscalers and AI labs with a focus on underserved routes. The company plans to deploy 20 satellites, offering 24-hour coverage and using redundant ground stations to ensure reliable links. EON will leverage off-the-shelf satellite busses and build its optics lab using its seed funding, with a demo satellite expected to launch in 2027. The startup seeks to transition satellite internet from a last-resort technology to a dependable, high-bandwidth infrastructure. Blue Origin’s TeraWave network, with more satellites and higher speeds, is more ambitious but requires more time to launch and deploy.
