Trump’s latest AI czar has already resigned

Chris Fall, the director of the Center for AI Standards and Innovation (CAISI), resigned after leading the agency, which is responsible for developing technical standards and assessing cybersecurity risks for AI models. CAISI operates under the National Institute of Standards and Technology and was not involved in the recent export control ban on Anthropic models, which was handled by the U.S. Commerce Department. Fall’s departure followed concerns over Chinese AI models and the need for an independent standards body to regulate frontier AI.
