The first American autonomous ground vehicles are fighting in Ukraine
Forterra, a U.S. defense tech company, deployed over 100 self-driving ATVs in Ukraine, enhancing its capability to support military operations with gas-powered, cargo-capable vehicles. The vehicles, modified with a Starlink antenna, are used for logistics and casualty evacuations, despite challenges in combat and limited autonomy. Forterra is competing with other UGV startups, aiming to improve its position in national security contracts and reduce manual tasks through advanced algorithms and better tooling.
