
A new report from BloombergNEF predicts that data centers will use one-fifth of the U.S. electricity generation by 2035, four times more than today, with AI driving capacity to nearly 200 gigawatts over a decade. The U.S. will host 64% of AI chips by power demand by 2033, while electricity prices have risen 76% due to the supply-demand imbalance. Data centers are seeking to connect to PJM, but the system remains strained, with one utility considering withdrawal. By 2033, data centers will create 1,935 terawatt-hours of new electricity demand, nearly as much as India uses annually.
