AI makes weather prediction better. Can WindBorne make it lucrative?
WindBorne Systems raised $37 million in a Series B round to develop AI-driven weather forecasting models, with a valuation of $250 million, and now operates 20 launch sites and 600 weather balloons. The company uses its proprietary data set to enhance forecast accuracy and offers services to government agencies, including the U.S. National Weather Service, and aims to expand its private sector customer base by transitioning from satellite to mesh radio networks.
