OpenAI has paused internal activities with its in-development AI model Astra due to cybersecurity concerns, setting new standards for its models. The company has determined that Astra does not yet meet these standards, as it lacks the ability to develop zero-day exploits or execute novel cyberattacks without human intervention. OpenAI will implement stricter security controls for higher-capability models, including universal monitoring and alignment checks for agentic applications.
